“TURKS ABROAD: THE SYMPOSIUM ON MIGRATION AND INTEGRATION IN ITS 50^TH YEAR”

MAY 21-23, 2009, ANKARA

1.GENERAL INFORMATION

A symposium called “Turks Abroad: The Symposium on Migration and Integration in its 50th Year” will be held at Ankara’s Bilkent Hotel on May 21-23, 2009 under the auspices of Turkish Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The event is co-organized by the Ministry of State of the Republic of Turkey and Hacettepe University's Strategic Research Center (HÜSAM).

Among the invitees, Turkish Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected, there are representatives of international organizations and institutions, high-level politicians including ministers responsible for migration and integration and bureaucrats from the countries, where Turks are densely-populated especially from Germany and also experts, representatives of non-governmental organizations.

With adopting a solution-oriented approach, the symposium aims to evaluate the migration of Turks to the foreign countries within over half a century and to discuss the advantages, problems, future oriented expectations and strategies within a multilateral framework.

2.ACCREDITATION AND SECURITY CHECKS

Members of the press who wish to cover the activities should apply for accreditation to the address below in person, by fax or e-mail by Friday, May 15, at 5 p.m.

a)Members of the national press should legibly fill in the enclosedaccreditation form (also available at www.byegm.gov.tr) and attach a copy of their press card. (Media members without this press card should apply with a letter of authorization from theirmedia organization and a copy of their official ID cards.)

b)Resident members of the foreign press in Turkey should legibly fill in the enclosedaccreditation form (also available at www.byegm.gov.tr) and attach a copy of their press card.

c)Members of the foreign press coming from abroad should legibly fill in the enclosedaccreditation form (also available at www.byegm.gov.tr) and attach a copy of their local press card, a letter of authorization from theirmedia organization and a copy of their passport.

3. ACCREDITATION CARDS

Accreditation cards should be collected in person from the Directorate General of Press and Information on May 20, or from the press desk to be set up at Bilkent Hotel and Congress Center (Address: Üniversiteler Mah. 1599. Sok. No: 6 Bilkent /ANKARA, Tel: + 90-312-266 46 86, Fax: +90-312- 266 46 79) on May 21 upon the presentation of a photo ID.
