A cargo jet belonging to the Iranian YAS Air, bound for Syria, was granted over flight permission on 22 March 2011 by Turkey on the condition that it land in Diyarbakir Airport. This is a common practice for over flight permission requests.

During the routine check in accordance with the over flightpermission procedure, Turkish authorities found and confiscated a batch of material banned under the relevant UN sanctions.

The Iranian cargo jet has been permitted to return to Iran without the banned material the same day.
